bow ties, again

I haven't taken photos of my outfits all week, but assuredly, there have been bow ties.  I'm trying to rock a look I'm calling Palm Springs dad while at conference.  Not sure I'm making it there, but I am liking the colours and patterns.

So here you go, a bow tie selfie for you!

bow ties

It's that time of year again when I need to do a whooooole lot of presentations for my professional association, and so the bow ties come out.  I do enjoy wearing them, but in recent times, I find myself wearing them less and less at work.  The effects of the pandemic?  I actually tried to dress for work for the year and a half of working at home, changing into more casual clothing at the end of the work day.

But no, I haven't rolled out the bow ties all that much lately.  In recent days, in the week ahead?  That will change.

It's funny:  go back to all the old blog posts.  You might find a regular old neck tie on me, but no bow ties.  I didn't know how to tie and wear them until October of 2012, after I went on my many-year hiatus.  All credit to Dale, then in Baltimore and now in New Orleans, for showing me how to tie one (in a car after dinner at a conference in Baltimore as Hurricane Sandy was barreling down on us).

I've worn them many times since, and in my presidential campaign, I made them my emblem.

It was a cute campaign idea, and I thought I executed it well.  I didn't win, but it was fun enough.

On the other hand, it became something I'm now known for, to the point where if I don't have a bow tie on, I get comments.  So, good branding, but branding that I can't quite escape.

Ah well.  I do have a number of bow ties, and there is absolutely no point in letting them go to waste!  So they make a return for January, at least.  Now to get my outfits for New Orleans picked out, and match the bow ties with them!
