someone is sick

No, not me.  Conrad brought back a souvenir from our trip to Washington - he spent a couple of days in Seattle without us - and it's not a fun one:  Covid.  Poor guy.  He feels like he has a cold and a headache.  I have him isolated in the bedroom, and there he remains, a little bored.  I'm a little bored without his company as well.  I have been at home the past couple of days, making sure he is fed and watered and resting.

I suppose that it could be worse:  he could have fallen ill (or I could have) a day or so before we take off on our big trip.  Best that he get it out of the way now.  And best that I continue to test negative!

yesterday I ventured out

A negative test!

Oh, that was a happy sight yesterday morning.  And another one this morning, so I believe I am well and truly done with this bloody thing.  YAY!  Good.

Conrad and I headed out on a walk yesterday morning.

It was already in the 70s and bright sun when we left, and no, I did not enjoy that.  Ah well, it was still good to walk a bit, finding all the shade we could.  How did we survive all that time in Rancho Mirage in the summer???  It wasn't a superlong walk, no, but it was better than zero!

We did, unsurprisingly, stop in at Amara for breakfast.  I still don't have a big appetite, and I had a chicken empanada as a lighter meal along with a decaf latte.  Conrad had his usual, though.

Look how cute he is!

It was 80 degrees when we walked home.  By 10 AM, that is.  A hot day was in store.  I just really won't ever wear shorts out in public (yes, I know my legs are ghostly white, I don't need others to see them and point it out to me), so it was short sleeves, seersucker pants, and hey, why not, a hat!  A cool enough outfit for the day.

Our main plan for the day was meeting up with Sharon and Scott

to go take in the Pasadena Showcase House.  Now, had we fully understood things, we would have had them park at Van's and then we all would have Ubered over.  Alas, we instead thought we had to use the shuttle from Santa Anita race track, so it was a slog over there and back bracketing our time.  We met them at the shuttle stop, headed over together, wandered through the house and garden

(I didn't take photos in the house other than the bar,

sorry!), poked in the market set up on the grounds (I grabbed some Herban soaps - I love their stuff - and a few truffles), caught up enjoyably, and endured the 97 degree heat together.  On May Bloody10th, that heat.  Ugh.  It will cool off this week, but that was a lot.  We found shade to wait for the shuttle back,

and then parted from them at Santa Anita.  I hope we see them again before too long!

An easy evening after that.  Conrad and I did a quick shop for dinner, and I got it all heated and on the table for us at Van's.  No television, just home by 9:15ish, wanting to keep cooling down and rehydrating.

It's an easy Sunday here.  I'm about to pour myself more decaf, we have a FaceTime with Courtney and Robert planned for this afternoon.  I'll post this entry this evening, and maybe get the last Sonoma post ready to go live tomorrow.  Some laundry on the go, a wine order to pick up.  Not a bad life today!

yep, still, sigh

I am much improved since Saturday, I am happy to say.  Not 100%, no, but improved.  But, alas, still positive.

There are plans afoot for Friday and Saturday.  I am fine if I need to be masked for those, but I do want to feel my best for them.  We shall see.

I am, however, not merely lying in bed, and I have made it out and about in the condo as needed!

Masked, and far from Conrad, of course.

so while I sit around here at home, sick...

... let me post a little on here.

But ugh, sigh, I hate being sick.  Not just a cold, alas, but COVID.

May I blame one of the unmasked coughers who were next to me on my flights last week?

It did start out as a good weekend.  We'd been to the Kylie Minogue concert the night before, and it was a late night that led to a sleep-in.  Conrad and I had a short walk, and then it was a welcome, usual breakfast at Amara.

It all went wobbly after that, and by 1 in the afternoon on Saturday, I was shivering in bed.  Fun times.

And now I'm suffering what feels more like a cold, still low energy and focus, and bored from being at home sick.

Sigh.

a tiny glimpse of Pasadena

Not much to report at my end of things.  Conrad, poor guy, came back from Michigan with his first (and may it be his last) case of COVID.

3.5 years of avoiding it, including when I had it almost a year ago, and now it hits him.  So, I spent a lot of yesterday in the condo with him isolated in the master bedroom and me downstairs, both of us masking when we had to interact.  I did laundry, I read and watched stuff on my iPad, I made sure I was around in case he needed something (he slept a lot).  So, no, not much to share.

I did get out on a morning walk this morning.  It was a lovely morning for it, and I was able to take an hour and wander a familiar route.  No Conrad with me, alas.  I haven't taken a lot of photos around town lately, I know, but the morning light was nice, and the plaza around it was quiet, so I took one of the Ambassador Auditorium.

Such a handsome building, and one I've been inside several times for Pasadena Symphony concerts.  So there you go, a wee bit of Pasadena to share on this Monday.

Now then, may Conrad be fine and testing negative by the time we travel Thursday evening!
