a last post for January

Apologies, all:  I just don't have the energy to post a longer update from the past week.  Hours of today have been spent on this new addition to the family,

and after all the contract language and added features and whatnot, I'm a little frazzled.  So, please accept this as a last post for January 2026, and goodnight all!

let it snow?

Maybe there is such a thing as too much. Snow, that is.

Vancouver is not supposed to get weather like this, so they say, whoever "they" are. Well, surprise: a foot of snow has fallen in the last week including a good several inches in the last 24 hours. Enough, certainly, to snarl air traffic. Enough, in fact, to ensure that we will not wake up tomorrow morning and head over to Mum and Roy's from the hotel in Salmon Arm. Rather, we will wake up in our bed in Vancouver, seek breakfast and coffee, and eventually head back to YVR to see if our re-booked flight will go ahead. Sometime around 8 or so on Christmas night we may make it to the parents' place and have a late Christmas dinner. 36 hours later we'll be on our way back to Vancouver. Not exactly what we planned, but we're doing our best to make lemonade of it.

In any case, the snow is both impressive in its accumulation, and rather pretty. Things have warmed up out there, meanwhile, so though the occasional flakes come and go, it's heading toward a slow melt and rain on Boxing Day.

And you know? The thought of the resultant mess from all that is almost worse.

Ah well. A white Christmas, and I will be content with that. Some scenes of the accumulation around our condo. The woman is, of course, my beloved sister Marie.

wintry night

Jeph e-mailed me early yesterday to tell me how sorry he felt for me because it appeared Chicago was going to miss out on the snow passing through the middle of the country. Ha!

Conrad made it in while it was just a light snow dancing around in the dying afternoon light. By the time we settled down to dinner, it was blowing more, and the snow was whipping down. The rest of the night, as we sat sipping wine by the tree it sounded like a howler outside, and it made the evening all the more cozy inside.

Once we cleared the condensation from the windows, we got a few shots of the scene outside.

This morning? Looks lovely out there. I should go walk over to Starbucks and grab my morning fortification. Be nice to be outside - I wonder if Conrad will mind being moseyed out of bed....

I'm dreaming of a white...

...well, pick your holiday but make mine Christmas. 3 weeks today, and while we had a dusting of snow on Saturday, washed away by rain within one day, tonight we're getting a heavier, pristine coat of the stuff. Pristine for a little while at least. So, then, Jeph is right: it IS beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

I am so very glad I don't need to drive in the stuff or park our vehicle outdoors overnight!
