Black Friday, Honolulu

One other quick post before dinner....

Our hotel here in Honolulu is close to Conrad's office, which also means our room - up on the 33rd floor - overlooks the huge Ala Moana Shopping Center and its parking lot. By 7:00 yesterday morning, Black Friday, we were watching cars driven around the parking in the futile expectation of finding a spot. Yes, the shopping was crazy here as well.

We ended up getting out of the city for most of the day and thereby avoiding a lot of the holiday crush of people. Before driving out of town, though, we walked over for a quick latte at the Honolulu Coffee Company in the middle of the mall. From there we could see it all: the incongruous sight of Christmas decorations in a tropical setting, the bustle of people, and the triumph on the faces of those who, even at that time, had been there for hours and had finished finding all the great sale items they wanted.
