and then we were in Argentina

The title of this post makes it sound so quick and easy, and it wasn't exactly difficult, though it did feel like some Cold War exchange of prisoners.

After two nights at our lovely hotel in Torres del Paine, we were bundled into a comfortable shuttle and driven about an hour and a half to a border crossing station just inside Santa Cruz province.

A short time there for processing our passports, then we were back in the shuttle, heading a kilometer down the road to be switched to another vehicle with an Argentinian driver.  And then it was on the road - a bunch of it on the Argentine side unpaved at first - for another, oh, four hours to El Calafate.

The border crossing itself?  Unremarkable.  Little more in that area than a building or two.  Oh, and a dog, of course.

So many dogs roaming around in Argentina!

But just like that, though, we had left the Chile part of our vacation and were in Argentina.
