Screw anyone who says that Canada doesn't have its own cuisine. Oh, sure, there are plenty of things we eat that we get from English, French, American, and many other cuisines. But there are things that we eat that everyone here knows (and loves, or should love) that I know my American friends and colleagues and English relatives would not know at all.
So, if you are not from Canada, tell me how you would pronounce this word: Nanaimo.
Got it? If you don't, ah well. Just know that the BC city is the namesake of a tasty sweet treat: Nanaimo bars.
Yum! It's a very rare treat for me, even when I come up here. But today? Oh yes, today I enjoyed one with Conrad.
It really is lovely being up here.
